ISO 26262 – “Road Vehicles — Functional Safety”, is a standard that defines functional safety for automotive equipment that is applicable throughout the lifecycle of all automotive electronic and electrical safety-related systems.
The first edition, published on 11 November 2011, is intended to be applied to electrical and/or electronic systems installed in “series production passenger cars” with a maximum gross weight of 3500kg. It aims to address possible hazards caused by the malfunctioning behavior of electronic and electrical systems.
ISO 26262 consists of ten parts, with part 8 of the standard relating to ‘Supporting Processes’ and states that safety requirements should be traceable to both source and derived requirements.
