The History of Dymola
The initial ideas behind the Dymola and Modelica modelling approach are from Hilding Elmqvist’s Phd. Development effectively started in 1978. After completing the Phd, the ideas rested on the bookshelf for many years as computing power was not really good enough to make practical use of the ideas. In 1992, Hilding founded Dynasim to commercialise the ideas from his Phd. Initially started with a modelling language he designed as part of his phd. Based in Lund, Sweden. In 1996, Hilding founded the Modelica Association as a way to develop a standard modelling language. He realised the limitations of developing a proprietary modelling language and started to collaborate with other language developers to design a standard language.
In 1999, version 1.0 of Modelica was released. Dymola immediately switched to support the new language. Claytex adopted Dymola for consulting projects from the first Modelica compliant release.
In 2003, Claytex became Dymola distributors for the UK and Ireland
In 2004, Dymola and the AirConditioning library selected as the standard tool for air conditioning simulation by Audi, BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen.
In 2006, Dassault Systemes acquired Dynasim to use the Dymola technology and Modelica language to provide a core part of their CATIA Systems product line for V6.
In 2007, Claytex extended to cover Dymola sales and support for Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands
In 2010, Dymola 7.4 was released with full support for Modelica 3.1
