Dymola Electric Drives Library

The SmartElectricDrives Library allows modeling and simulation of an entire electric drive system and is ideal for simulation of hybrid electrical vehicles and new alternative concepts with electrical auxiliaries.

Investigation of a hybrid concept showed that an efficiency increase of 17% of the whole electric drive leads to a fuel saving of the hybrid vehicle of 13%. This demonstrates the important role of simulation in the design and development of the electric drive train.

The Smart Electric Drives library provides components for modelling any type of electrical drive including the energy storage device, power electronics and motor models. The library has been developed primarily for modelling the electrical drives in automotive hybrid vehicles but can be applied to any other application.

The library contains components with varying levels of fidelity starting with QuasiStationary drive models that are designed for efficient simulation of long duration drive cycles through to detailed Transient drive models that include all the switching effects in the power electronics.

Several SAE papers have been published on the application of this library for simulating automotive hybrids and electric vehicles.
