Landing Systems Modelling With Dymola
The multi-domain modelling and simulation capabilities of Dymola can be used to simulate the complete Aircraft auxiliary and main landing gears, including tires, wheels, oleo-pneumatic shock absorbers, airframe, hydraulics and control laws. Creating a comprehensive model of the landing system enables the behaviour and interactions of the complete system to be investigated and optimised to meet the weight, functional and safety requirements.
A complete model of the aircraft landing system enables a wide range of operational scenarios to be simulated and investigated. Ground handling of the aircraft can be investigated to ensure that the interactions between the control laws, pilot behaviour and the physical response of the aircraft are within safety limits. For example, the effect of engine failure and differential thrust during take-off can be modelled and the response control system explored to ensure that the aircraft does not deviate significantly from the planned trajectory before the pilot is aware of the fault and can respond appropriately.
To create a comprehensive model of the Landing system the following libraries could be combined:
- Modelica Standard Library
- The Modelica Standard Library provides the basic MultiBody library and Control system block diagram modelling capability to build up the mechanical parts of the landing gears and the control laws.
- Hydraulics Library
- The Hydraulics library provides basic models for the modeling of pumps, motors and cylinders, restrictions and valves, hydraulic lines, lumped volumes and sensors. Users can connect components freely as they desire, so it is easy to realize non-standard configurations.
- FlexBody Library
- By combining the MultiBody mechanics from the Modelica Standard library with the FlexBody library the structural compliance of the landing gear can be included in to any simulation enabling the accurate prediction of the complete aircraft dynamic response when on the ground.
- Vehicle Dynamics Library
- The Vehicle Dynamics library can be used to provide the tire models, suspension components, ground models and pilot models to enable the ground handling of the aircraft to be investigated.
